This year the Erich Fried Award 2009 of 15,000 Euros goes to the author Esther Dischereit from Berlin. This was decided upon by the sole jurator Josef Winkler (Austrian State Prize, Büchner Award).

As with the Kleist Award, this prize is awarded every year, based on the suggestion of a yearly alternating autonomous jurator. The award was established by the Erich Fried Association for Literature and Language. It was founded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.

The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, 29^th November 2009 at 11am in the Literaturhaus Vienna, as the highlight and culmination of the Erich Fried Festival 2009.
