Tess Lewis

Tess Lewis ist eine Schriftstellerin und Übersetzerin aus dem Französischen und Deutschen ins Englische, mit einer Vorliebe für Literatur aus der Schweiz und Österreich. Sie hat Bücher von Peter Handke, Maja Haderlap, Karl-Markus Gauß, Alois Hotschnig, Doron Rabinovici, Jonas Lüscher, Klaus Merz, Philippe Jaccottet, Christine Angot und Walter Benjamin u.a. übersetzt. Sie wurde vom PEN USA, PEN UK, und der US National Endowment of the Arts mit Stipendien geehrt. Für ihre Übersetzung von Phillippe Jaccottets Erzählung Obscurité erhielt sie den Max Geilinger Preis, und ihre Übersetzung von Maja Haderlaps Engel des Vergessens wurde mit dem ACFNY Übersetzungspreis und dem PEN Translation Award 2017 geehrt. Sie ist Lektorin bei The Hudson Review und Co-Kuratorin des Festivals Neue Literatur, dem jährlich stattfindenden Festival deutschsprachiger Literatur in New York City.

Tess Lewis is a writer and translator from French and German, specializing in works of Austrian and Swiss literature. Her translations include works by Peter Handke, Maja Haderlap, Karl-Markus Gauß, Alois Hotschnig, Doron Rabinovici, Jonas Lüscher, Klaus Merz, Philippe Jaccottet, Christine Angot and Walter Benjamin. She has been awarded grants from PEN USA and PEN UK, two NEA Translation Fellowships, a Max Geilinger Translation Grant for her translation of Philippe Jaccottet, the ACFNY Translation Prize and the 2017 PEN Translation Award for her translation of the novel Angel of Oblivion by Maja Haderlap. She is an Advisory Editor for The Hudson Review and co-curator of the Festival Neue Literatur, New York City's annual festival of German language literature in English.
